Description: This presentation, session number 97PD, took place at the 1999 Spring Meeting of the Society of Actuaries, held June 16-18 in Seattle. The presenters look at the adequacy of state insurance regulation by examining the purpose and intent of the McCarran-Ferguson Act. They discuss the strengths and weaknesses of state regulation, and “whether the public interest is best served by 1 the states or the federal government being the primary regulators of insurance or 2 some system of bifurcated regulatory authority shared between the states and the federal government.” Discussion from participants is included.
